A Unique End-to-End Transaction Reference (UETR) is a unique string of 36 characters assigned to every payment sent over the SWIFT network.
Much like a parcel tracking number, a UETR allows financial institutions and users to trace a payment's progress at any stage of the processing cycle.
UETR Format
A UETR consists of 36 numbers and letters formatted as:
XXXXXXXX-XXXX-4XXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX
Example: 16245616-3A27-46E4-8CB3-BB8735AF4115
All banks processing a SWIFT transaction pass this code along the payment chain without modification, enabling full end-to-end transparency.
How to find your UETR in Ebury Online
Your UETR is displayed on your payment receipt and within Ebury Online for all SWIFT payments.
To locate your UETR:
Go to Payments from the main dashboard.
Select Filter to search for your payment.
Select the payment identification number (such as PIXXXXXX).
Review the details panel to view your UETR code.
How to use a UETR to track your payment
Because UETR codes are unique to individual transactions, they instantly identify the exact status of your funds.
If your beneficiary has not yet received a payment, share the UETR code with them. Their bank can use this number to quickly locate and release the specific transaction.
