Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security measure that requires two different forms of identification to access an account or system.

This involves proving two of the below three options:

  1. Knowledge = something you know (like a password),

  2. Inherence = something you are (like your biometrics or facial recognition)

  3. Possession = something you have (like access to an SMS on your smartphone or an authenticator app).

By asking for two of the above options instead of just one, 2FA significantly enhances security by adding that extra layer of protection beyond just an email & password, ensuring that even if a password is compromised, the account remains secure.

It greatly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, identity theft, and data breaches.

EBO has implemented 2FA using Knowledge (Password) + Possession (SMS or Authenticator app).

2FA using an authenticator app

An authenticator app generates a six-digit time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs). This proves that you are in physical possession of a phone registered to your Ebury Account.

This means that even if an attacker somehow steals your password, they still cannot get into your account without access to your mobile phone.

To set up 2FA, you must first install an authenticator app on your mobile phone and have access to your phone while logging in to your account.

How to set up the authenticator app on Ebury Online

  1. Choose the Authenticator app option during the 2FA set up journey, as the authentication method.

  2. Download an Authenticator App or open it if you already have one installed. Most used authenticator apps:

  3. Scan the QR Code: In the EBO 2FA set up journey will be a QR code. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code displayed on EBO.

    • If you can't scan the QR code, enter the Code Manually: if the QR code option isn’t working, you can enter the code displayed on EBO into your authenticator app.

  4. Verify Setup

    • Once you've scanned the QR code or entered the code manually, the authenticator app will generate a time-based one-time password (TOTP).

    • Enter this code into Ebury Online to verify and complete the setup.

By following these steps, you can enhance the security of your accounts by setting up Two-factor authentication (2FA) using Authenticator apps effectively.

Note - The code in the authenticator app will keep changing every few seconds. This is normal and ensures security.
